..."after Karl Blossfeldt"

...below and on the following page are some of my own very feeble attempts to convey to the viewer the charm of the imagery of the German sculptor and teacher, Karl Blossfeldt (1865 - 1932).

 

Blossfeldt used images of plants and other natural objects to instil in his pupils an appreciation and understing of shape and form.   He utilised a photographic process known as "photogravure" which captured his many beautiful black and white, many-toned images that are so famous today.

 

I visited an exhibition of some of Blossfeldt's work at the Thelma Hulbert Galleries, in Honiton, Devon, in 2014 - it was a wonderful and inspiring experience.
